I.T. people love creating new terms. What is wrong with “articles” instead? First cousins basically. Articles were born before modern information technology. Articles needed modern clothing. Redressed “articles” became “weblogs”. But this name was too long and IT communication language runs on short cuts and impatience “Weblogs” was shrunk to “Blogs” which is miles shorter than “weblogs”. So, Blogs is the current title holder and who are we not to fall in line with.
